The objective of the organization Solar City Copenhagen is to establish Copenhagen as a demonstration and development centre for solar energy systems and energy optimization.
The organization was set up in 2004 as a co-project between the Copenhagen Municipality, the Danish Energy Authority, Copenhagen Energy, Valby neighbourhood council, Esbensen Consulting Engineers, PA Energy, Cenergia and Kuben Urban Renewal.
The chief purpose of the organization is to contribute to an energy supply which is sustainable and CO2 neutral.
The plan is to make this happen by way of:
• promoting the implementation and development of solar cell and solar heating systems
• ensuring public awareness through information and involvement
• encouraging cooperation within the field of solar energy – regionally and internationally
The objective will be achieved through intensified cooperation between all players that are willing to support such a development, i.e. public and municipal institutions, private companies, building owners, investors, banks and credit institutions, housing societies and residents etc.
