| | | | | | Solar Award 2007 Carlsberg District Plan (DKK 35,000) Originator: Carlsberg Entasis Architects and Esbensen Consulting Engineers
The Carlsberg Neighbourhood Project is commended for its spectacular plan involving solar energy and sustainability. The scheme is convincingly carried out, and with great technical credibility. This is a district with an ambition to spearhead the global campaign against CO2 emission and for which the utilization of solar energy is a key factor.
The point of departure was a building owner with ambitious demands for a sustainable district plan and involvement of architect and engineer from the very beginning. This initial cooperation has lead to the fusion of architecture and energy-conserving techniques with integrated energy design as the result.
Carlsberg as a building owner has shown that energy-conscious solutions are compatible with growth and city development. That there is not necessarily a conflict between energy and growth. Moreover, Carlsberg may serve as a model for other companies with a wish to spearhead the development instead of being overtaken by it.

The end-gable project in Valby is commended for being a striking example of the promotion of photovoltaics – a direct visualization where the performance can be read immediately by passers-by. The artwork consists of dead black photovoltaics joined with neon tubes which will light up the façade at night. Being adjacent to the railway leading to Copenhagen Central Station, it will serve as a landmark for Valby Solar Plan and for Copenhagen. The combination of photovoltaics and art may serve as inspiration to others when it comes to unconventional use of photovoltaics. The perseverance of the artist is also commended – her persistent cooperation is one of the main causes that this project will now be realized.
